“Thich Nhat Hanh was born in central Vietnam in 1926, where he entered a Buddhist monastery at the age of sixteen.During the Vietnam War, Buddhist monk and nuns were confronted with the question of whether to remain meditating in their monasteries, or to go out to help the residents of the villages suffering under bombings and other devastation of this terrible war.Thây chose to do both, and thus became a founder of the “Engaged Buddhism” movement.His life since has been dedicated to the revealing how the transformative practices of meditation and mindfulness can be a basis of social change—in our own lives and in the world.”
