Guide for New Faculty
The Scientist recently ranked the University of British Columbia as one of the top ten non-U.S. academic employers worldwide. UBC’s commitment to excellence in research and teaching creates a supportive environment for outstanding faculty and students, fostering academic distinction and global citizenship. The University is proud to be the home of some of Canada’s best scholars and scientists, and internationally renowned researchers.
The College for Interdisciplinary Studies (CFIS), through our 35 interdisciplinary schools, research institutes and centres, is an integral part of this success. Our research units are designed to be flexible and dynamic, with a minimum of infrastructure, and a fluid composition of faculty members with diverse research interests. All faculty members funded through CFIS are cross-appointed to other faculties, encouraging the cross-fertilization of interdisciplinary perspectives.
To help you become acquainted with our College, we’ve created a guide for new faculty members that contains information about our activities and the benefits of becoming a faculty member in CFIS, and also includes information about our location in Vancouver. We hope you find the guide useful.
Contents include: about Vancouver, quality of life, cost of living, immigration and citizenship, health and other benefits, research and teaching support, etc., for faculty members.
