Funding Strategies

New faculty members joining a Department/Unit within CFIS will meet with the Senior Research Grants Officer. This meeting will have two purposes:

  1. Educate the Senior Research Grants Officer as to the academic’s area(s) of research and their funding needs.
  2. Help the Senior Research Grants Officer plan a pathway through the funding programs available to meet the needs of the academic.

Meetings can also be held with teams. CFIS encourages its faculty to participate in multi-department, multi-institution, interdisciplinary research. CFIS units have been very successful on attaining funding in elite programs such as SSRHC’s Partnership and CIHR Team grants

Any funding strategy discussed will have two components: the immediate start-up needs for a project; and long term, ongoing funding. CFIS recognizes that both these aspects are fundamental to a strong sustainable research program.

If you wish to meet with the Senior Research Grants Officer, please arrange an appointment via e-mail. Typically one week’s notice is needed.
